How Barcode Scanners Work with Sage
Sage 50 and Sage 200 accept barcode input via keyboard wedge — the scanner types the barcode number into any active field exactly like a keyboard. There is no Sage plugin or driver required. Simply click into the Product Code or reference field in Sage, scan the barcode, and Sage locates the item. This works with any USB or Bluetooth HID scanner.
Setup Guide: USB Scanner with Sage 50
Step 1: Plug USB scanner into your PC (no drivers needed for HID scanners)
Step 2: Open Sage 50 and navigate to Stock → Products
Step 3: Click into the Product Code field
Step 4: Scan the barcode on your product — the code appears in the field
Step 5: Configure your scanner to add a Tab or Enter suffix if Sage doesn't auto-advance to the next field
